<p>Our family of 4 (two older teenage kids) spent 2 days touring with Richard. Even before meeting Richard, he was very prompt in replying to our emails and was able to arrange and book our hotel for us ahead of time. He met us promptly at the airport with driver and van and even serenaded us with a traditional Chinese welcome song on the way to our hotel. The highlights of our tour was a great bamboo raft ride up the Li river, cycling the backroads of &nbsp;Yangshou&nbsp;, interacting with local residents and close encounters with the local Panda bears. Throughout our trip, Richard was careful to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. At the beginning of each day, he provided us with a list of the anticipated expenses so there would be no surprises.</p> <p>I would not hesitate to recommend Richard to anyone who is in need of a guide for their visit to the Guilin region. <p>We recently went to China and spent 3 days in Guilin. We wanted to explore the area ourselves but have booked Richard for one day to hike with us in the Longji Rice Terracess for a few hours which was amazing. Richard was a great tour guide who gave us great insights into the area and was very knowledgeable. He knows what travellers want (no shopping tours and mass tourism) and did also give us a lot of useful tips for the days we explored the area ourselves. <p>In October 2011&nbsp;we used Richard as our guide to visit Guilin and the surrounding areas for 4 days. Richard speaks good English and is very knowledgeable with regards to the&nbsp;area&#39;s history and culture. Although an initial itinerary was agreed before&nbsp;our arrival, we&nbsp;were free to make adjustments to it as we went along. Richard didn&#39;t have a set number of hours for the tour&nbsp;and stayed with&nbsp;us until late at night&nbsp;when it was necessary. Richard&nbsp;also made sure that we didn&#39;t fall into any of the many tourist&nbsp;scams&nbsp;that&nbsp;exist in China.&nbsp;Overall,&nbsp;we were taken care of very well. <p>On Sept 5-7 2011 my wife and I had Richard as our Guide in Guilin.&nbsp; We spent 2 wonderful days to include a trip down the Li River where my wife was able to take picture of wild life to include water buffalo and then one of the best bicycle rides we ever had in the world.&nbsp; Richard took us to the real China, where we rubbed elbows with the the real people.&nbsp; Also on the economic side, their was no surprises.&nbsp; Richard kept the cost down, in meals we had to buy.&nbsp; Furthermore, his van was very comfortable and roomy.&nbsp; Since our tour with him, we took a short 1/2 day tour in Chengdu (where we are staying and I am teaching at a Chinese University) in which the mini van was terrible and needed shock absorbers.&nbsp;</p> <p>Richard knows Chinese History&nbsp;well and also does not go beyond&nbsp;his professional boundaries.&nbsp; For sure if you have Richard for a guide, ask him where his name came from.
