WILPATTHU NATIONAL PARK.

Wilpatthu National Park is the most largest National park in Srilanka.this national park has spread in area of 131,693.9 Hectares.The Wilpatthu forest park is declared as a national Park on 25 th February 1938.

Wilpatthu national park is situated in north part of the country and bordered to the Northern province.North central province and North western province.but the main entrance to the park is located near Anuradhapura in North Central province.

you can see many animals in this park as Leopards,Deer,Bears,Elephants,Crocodiles,peacocks,Pythons,Wild bows,Water buffaloes,Snakes and many birds etc;but you must be lucky to see these all animals as the park is so huge and you drive mostly on tracks near the borders.

this national park is almost neglected for nearly 25 years between 1983 and 2009 as the war of 'tamil tigers' was mostly in these areas.but the park is reopened in 2010 and many local and foreign tourists are intend to visit the park now.but it is a true fact that most of the animals was destroyed in the war time.

The easiest way to reach the park is drive in a car or public bus [ or you can take the train from Colombo to Anuradhapura ] to Anuradhapura. and hire a 04 wheel jeep from the Anuradhapura city.easily you can hire a 04 wheel jeep as all the hotels and tuk tuk drivers have contacts of 04 wheel jeeps.
