Borobudur is a Buddhist monuments located in Central Java island. It dates back to the 9th century. Even though the existence of this temple proves the strength of India´s influence on the territory, there are many elements within this monument that belong to the indigenous people.  The temple consists of six platforms in shape of a square and they are positioned one on top of each other so that the smaller is on top of the bigger. Borobudur is under UNESCO´s protection which helped its renovation in the 1970s. The steps of the pyramid represent the steps of enlightenment. On top of six square steps there are circular stupas while the sole top one can see a great stupa in the shape of a bell.
