Godly has been serving vegetarian dishes in Shanghai since 1922. Every “meat” dish on the menu is meticulously prepared to appear and taste like real meat. Duck, hot and sour soup and curry chicken are a few examples of the many Chinese mock-meat dishes served.
Unlike some Buddhist restaurants, they do sell liquor and smoking is allowed.
The interior of the first floor is characterized by dark wood and soft lighting. Good ventilation and clean bathrooms help round off the type of experience that would have some say, “I feel like I’m not in China." Half-private rooms are available but should be booked ahead of time. The 2nd and 3rd floors contain private rooms. Delicious sesame snaps and other treats can be purchased at the Godly small store that is attached to the restaurant.
