For those seeking a cell phone, whether it’s new or used, should head for this spot in Kunming.  Dong Feng Xi Lu (东风西路), between Renmin Xi Lu (人民喜路) and Kunshi Lu (昆师路), is lined with dozens of stores that sell mobile phones and accessories.  While some stores will not bargain (especially the ones on street level), many others will。 Try your very best to get a discount - you will often be able to save a few hundred RMB.
How to Get There: Dong Feng Xi Lu is the road not too far from Yunnan University that eventually becomes the tunnel under the city center that everybody drives very slow through.  Jianshi Lu becomes Dong Feng Xi Lu at Wenlin Jie.  If you are on Wenlin Jie, walk west until you hit the cinema, turn left, and go down the road to the end of the block.  That is where the mobile phone area begins - you can’t miss it.

It is often difficult to get one’s hands on a nice, juicy steak in most of China’s major cities (with obvious exception to Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong).  With that said, Yi Zuo La Brazilian Barbecue in downtown Kunming is sure to satisfy anyone’s cravings for western meat cuts.  Brazilian barbecue restaurants are becoming popular all around Asia, and understandably so.  These restaurants feature an army of waiters that walk about the establishment cutting pieces of barbecued beef, lamb, pork, chicken, goose, fish, fruit, and much more right onto your plate. Naturally there is also a buffet with even more selections, all of which the customer is allowed to eat until his or her heart (and stomach) is content.  Patrons are given a double-sided table marker. The green side means "feed me Seymour," and the red side means "if I eat anymore I might explode and die a horrible, horrible, meat-filled death."  Your future heart attack, courtesy of Yi Zuo La will only cost you 68 RMB for dinner, or 58 RMB for lunch (lunch not recommended unless you will enjoy spending the rest of the day in a food coma).  Yi Zuo La also boasts a Brazilian dance show with scantily-clad performers beginning nightly around 7 pm.

Yi Zuo La is located at 186 Wuyi Lu (五一路), just south of Renmin Zhong Lu (人民中路).

Halfway House is often a good option for late-night drinks in Kunming.  The atmosphere is comfortable, the owners are friendly, and the rotation of music is good.  There is an open mic every Monday night, starting around 9 pm.  During the rest of the week, Halfway House is a nice, mellower alternative to the Speakeasy up the street.  Halfway House generally sees its biggest crowds on the weekends.  Dali beer is available on tap - only 5 RMB a mug!

There are thousands of Koreans living, working, and studying in Kunming.  Considering those numbers, it is no surprise that there are quite a few options for Korean food in the city.  There are four Korean restaurants on Wenhua Xiang near Yunnan University.  You simply cannot go wrong with any of them.  Two of the restaurants (one of them depicted below) have the same owner and menu and are probably slightly better than the other two options on Wenhua Xiang.

DirectionsThe restaurants are all near the west gate of Yunnan University.  Wenhua Xiang, known as "foreigner street" is a little winding road sandwiched between Wenlin Jie (文林街) and Yi Er Yi Dajie (一二一大街).

13 Days, Yunnan: Trekking around Mt. Kawagebo

Daocheng is located in southwest corner of Sichuan province, it is well-known for the 3 holy peaks named by the 5th Dalai Lama, Shiannairi Peak(6032 m high), Xianuoduoji Peak(5898 m high), Yangmaiyong Peak(5898 m high). Every year, there are many people trek around the 3 holy peaks for increasing their merits and virtues. Lugu Lake is located in northwest part of Yunnan province, it covers 58 square kms, the water is very clear. The unique matriarchal Mosuo people live by the lake, which earned this area another name: the Mysterious Queendom. Trekking from Daocheng to Lugu Lake is surely one of the best trekking route in China.

ITINERARY
D1
Chengdu/Kangding
We will meet you at the airport and begin our journey to Kangding directly. Kangding, a former outpost on the trade route to Tibet, is a fairly large city tucked within a river valley. The sidewalks of Kangding are crowded with Hui, Chinese Muslims, and Tibetans who have come down from the highlands to sell wild mushrooms, vegetables, yak skins and various paraphernalia. Today's drive will take approximately 6 hours (360km).

D2
Kangding/ Litang
We'll have an early start today so we can have more time to explore this picturesque remote Tibetan town. At an altitude of just over 4000m, this is one of the highest towns in the world (Lhasa is 3700m). Situated high on a grassy plateau, Litang has the feel of a rough and tumble 'Wild West' town. Khampas - dressed in yak skin coats, bedecked in colorful necklaces and hair ornaments, long daggers hanging from their belts - from the surrounding areas amble into town to stock up on food and supplies, play pool on the streets and hang out in the local teahouses. This small town is great for people watching and just strolling around. We will also visit the famous Chang-Qing-Chun-Ke'er-Si monastery and pay homage to the living Buddha with a personal interview. The monastery here is now home to 1400 Yellow Hat sect monks. Once a hotbed of Tibetan dissent, this monastery was destroyed in the 1950s but has since been completely rebuilt. Today's journey from Kangding to Litang will take us approximately 5 hours (306km).

D3

Tibetan Buddhists believe that making a kora (pilgrimage) around these mountains brings great merit, and that the three mountains represent compassion, wisdom and energy - attributes one must cultivate on the path to enlightenment. The scenery here easily rivals that of national parks of the west such as Yellowstone and Yosemite in terms of spectacular, pristine mountain scenery. The drive from Litang to Daocheng will take approximately 4 hours (180km), and the trip from Daocheng to Yading (60km) will take approximately 3 hours as much of the road to the park is dirt track. We will spend the night in tent hotel.
