About this place

Hubei Provincial Museum was established in 1953 and covers an area of 2,400 sq meters (0.59 acres). The museum boasts great collections of musical instruments, bronze wares and lacquer wares.
In 1978, a huge tomb, dating to 475-221 B.C., was discovered in Sui County, Hubei. More than 15,000 relics were excavated from this tomb, including bronze ritual vessels, musical instruments, weapons, lacquer ware and more. Among these artifacts, the 65 chime bells are the most famous. The biggest bell is 153.4 cm (60.4 inches) in dimater with a weight of 203.6 kg (448.9 pounds). Even though the bells had been buried for more than 2,000 years, they can still be used to play music.
16 national treasures as well as 645 first class cultural relics are also preserved in the museum.
