Tzarevetz fortress was the fortified citadel of the capital city of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Naturally protected from three sides by the river Yantra Tzarevetz was almost impossible to conquer! There were living the Bulgarian king's family and the religious leader of the Orthodox church - the Patriarch!
