We are here providing you one of the most interesting trip ever in Saigon at the most important time of the time: Lunar New Year (usually called as Tet). It’s our honor to present you one of the unique tour in Saigon: Tet Tour. Within one day, we will help you to feel Tet atmosphere as the other Saigonese. During the journey, you can enjoy from the way we wake up in the morning and try coffee to the time we go home with family on the days near Tet. All activities will be different to usual including but not limited to Tet’s fruits shopping (Cầu - Dừa - Đủ- Xài), sortilege resorting, calligraphy, etc. Coming closer to the local at a very special event: Tet, you can feel more about Saigonese than the other days since this is when we practice our traditions and put all our efforts to show the real Saigon. Once per year only does Tet occur so do not miss it!
- 6:30: Pick up at the hostel
- 7:00: Enjoy morning coffee made with Fabric-filter method.
The “Hades coffee” has been lasting for 60 years and popular with its unique coffee-made method
- 7:30 Resort to sortilege at Phu Long Temple
This is one of the most typical activities of the Vietnamese at Tet. It’s known as a way to ask for advice from God
- 8:30 Breakfast with Pho/Bun Bo/Bo Kho
Pho/Bun Bo/Bo Kho are Saigon’s common foods. they have many versions for different kinds of people; however, with us you can enjoy these food as the local (completely different than those from restaurants)
- 9:00 Buy Tet’s traditional fruits (Cau-Dua-Du-Xai) at the wet market.
The custom of preparing a five-fruit tray derives from that the five fruits are symbolic of the five basic elements of the Oriental philosophy: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. It is also believed that these five fruits are symbols of the five fingers of a man’s hand that is used to produce physical wealth for his own use and to make offerings to his ancestors. In a simpler way; however, the fruits represent the quintessence that Heaven and Earth bless humans. This is one of the general perceptions of life of the Vietnamese, which is “When taking fruit, you should think of the grower”.
- 10:30 Decorate plenty of fruits bought in Tet’s style. Visit a traditional local family.
As Tet is very important to Saigonese; therefore, we usually decorate home with red papers, trees, fruits, golds etc. , which is believed to bring luck for the whole year ahead. You will see how occupied Saigonese are with their home decoration.
- 11:30 Lunch with local family. (Tet’s specialities are available)
There are some specialities at Tet. Most people choose to buy it but we will take you to a house that makes all specialities by them all. Thus, you can “taste” the local through food.
- 12:00 Back to hotel for rest.
- 14:00 Visit “Pho Ong Do” –Calligraphy pavement.
On Lunar New Year, middle-class (and above) families usually go to this Calligraphy Pavement to purchase a form of writing under lettering technique which all makes writing words become art. It’s an indispensable part of Saigon’s culture.
- 14:30 Visit L'angfarm Buffet for
- 15:30 Visit flower market at District 2 - the new city of Saigon.
- 15:30 Visit old-Chinese temple such as Thien Hau temple.
- 16:30 End. Back to Hotel.
