Tian’an men
Tian’an men( the Gate of Heavenly Peace), is located in the center of Beijing. It was first built in 1417 and named Chengtianmen( the Gate of Heavenly Succession). At the end of the Ming Dynasty, it was seriously damaged by war. When it was rebuilt under the Qing in 1651, it was renamed Tian’anmen, and served as the main entrance to the Imperial City, Tian’anmen was the place where state ceremonies took place.
On October 1, 1949, chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed on Tian’anmen Rostrum the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Since then Tian’anmen has been the symbol of New China.

Tian’anmen Square

    Tian’anmen Square has an area of 44 hectares( 109 acres) that can accommodate as many as one million people for public gatherings. It has witnessed may historical events in China’s modern history and is a place for celebrations on such festive days as international Labour Day on May 1st and national Day on October 1st.
    Around the Square are several famous buildings:
1. The Great Hall of the People to the west
2. The National Museum to the east
3. The Monument to the People’s Heroes is standing in the center
4. Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum in the south

The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City is located on city center in Beijing.It used to be the former Imperial Palace for Ming and Qing emperors.
The Forbidden City was first built in 1420,during the Ming Dynasty,while the Qing emperors also stayed inside after they entered Beijng,altogether 24 emperors lived in The Forbidden City.Fourteen of them were Ming emperors and ten were Qing emperors.
A large-scale construction of the Forbidden City started in 1406,and was completed in 1420.In the folling year,1421,the capital of the Ming Dynasty was moved from Nanjing to Beijing.
The Qing Dynasty was overthrown by 1911 Revolution leed by D.Sun-Yat-Sen.after 1911,the last emperor Puyi and his family they spent another 13years in the Forbidden City,until 1924,they were driven out of the palace.in 1925,the whole complex was converted into a museum and opened to the public.
the entire palace area, rectangular in shape and 72 hectares in size, 960 meter long from northto south,and 750 meter wide from east to west.is surrounded by walls ten meters high and a moat 52 meters wide. At each corner of the wall stands a watchtower with a double-eave roof covered with yellow glazed tiles.
  The main buildings, the six great halls, one following the other, are set facing south along the central north-south axis.The Palace area is divided into two parts: the Outer Court and the Inner Palace. The former consists of the first three main halls, where the emperor received his courtiers and conducted grand ceremonies, while the latter was the living quarters for the imperial residence. At the rear of the Inner Palace is the Imperial Garden where the emperor and his family sought recreation.
Lama Temple

 

Yonghegong (The Lama Temple) is a famous lamasery located in the northeastern part of the old city of Beijing. It was a palatial residence built in 1694 by Qing Emperor Kangxi for his fourth son, Prince Yongzheng who later succeeded to the throne. This magnificent temple consists of five main buildings lying on the?north-south axis, with annex halls standing on both sides. After the death of his father, Emperor Yongzheng moved to the Forbidden City. Green roof tiles were replaced by yellow ones to suit a monarch's home. In 1744 his successor Emperor Qianlong converted the palace into a lamasery.
    Of interest to visitors in the Lama Temple are the 18-metre-high Maitreya statue engraved from a 26-metre-long white sandal-wood log, the Five hundred Arhats Hill,made of gold, silver, copper, iron and tin, and the niche carved out of nanmu (this kind of Phoebe nanmu can give off a unusual scent reputed to repel mosquitoes in summer). These three objects are accredited as the three matchless masterpieces in the Lama Temple.
