Madu River or Madu Ganga is a shallow water body in south-west Sri Lanka. In 2000, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) undertook a detailed biodiversity survey of the region which revealed the existence of no less than 10 major wetland vegetation types supporting over 300 plant species and 248 species of vertebrates. Because of this remarkable diversity, this natural mangrove forest is protected by the Ramsar Convention on wetlands since 2003. The region continues to be a treasure trove to biologists and ecologists with many undiscovered species in the unreachable depths of the mangrove forests.

This location is very famous among both local and foreign tourists because of the 1-2 hours boat rides along the river. It gives everyone a fresh and special experience to go through the wetland by a open boat, enabling to see the natural beauty of the area. It usually costs 30-40 USD per boat, depending on the number of seats can be occupied in a boat.
