About this place
It was called "the Red Chamber" by locals. In 1921, EMI set up the Disc Factory here. In 1908, French brothers Pathe, founders of EMI, came to Shanghai and established the first Disc Manufacture in China.
The song "Volunteer's March" composed by Nie Er that later became the National Anthem of China was firstly recorded here in 1935, together with his other important works such as "Great Road Song" and "Graduation Song", etc. Other celebrities whose works were produced in the studio of this building include Mei Lanfang, the famous Chinese opera performing artist, Zhou Xuan and Ruan Lingyu, etc.
The building now is utilized as a restaurant.
