Eating local food

Some guidebooks warn about the dangers of eating local or street food, but if you are feeling adventurous you might enjoy the meal of your life - for just a dollar or so.

You don't travel around the world just to eat the normal food you might have - pizza, steak, pasta, etc - so don't expect great Western food when you visit China.

Instead, why not try the local food, which is made right there, from local produce. On street corners, near markets, and in small hole-in-the-wall restaurants you might sample some of the best food you've ever had. Everything is fresh, probably purchased from the market that morning, and freshly made before your eyes.

Eating local food is also a great way to meet Chinese, who will be curious about your ability with chopsticks or your liking of local food.
