About this place

We've seen Oyster houses last time, there is another place near there - Stone Street.

It’s an old street back to the Song dynasty with a length of 1500 meters. The government built this street by green slates, to help people carry silk sugar, tea and China to the boat and delivery to all over the world. But there was a problem, people found when they came back from other country, the boats would be too light to run, and it was dangerous, so they picked up lots of oysters shells from The Persian gulf to put on the boat and make it heavy and safe. When they got back to China, they abandoned those shells on the land, local people found those shells are thick and huge, so they made use of them to build houses.

Old people said, one of history’s greatest explorers, Marco Polo, used to walk on this street and send the Mongolia princess off to get marry with Persian Prince.

As we walk though this street, we get to Wenying Yard, where used to be busy in the old times. A tower standing by the water, it used to be seven floors as the navigation for people go to the sea, now it’s only three floors, what a pity.

At the end of the street, there is a temple. After the temple, we can see a huge rock, there are two Chinese characters on it ”吞海“, means swallow the sea, actually, it’s a good meaning for people going out finishing or trading, to be safe and sound.

There are too many stories about this place, the amazing Marine Silk Road, let’s check more next time.
