Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple, located at 170 Anyuan Road, Putuo District, Shanghai, is a Buddhist temple with a long history. It is named after the Jade Buddha, which is mainly worshipped in the temple. The temple was first built in 1882 by Master Huigen of Mount Putuo, with the sponsorship of local overseas Chinese, who excavated jade and carved it into five jade Buddha statues. Two of them were left in Shanghai for worship, and in 1928, a new temple was built on the current site, which is now known as the Jade Buddha Temple.
The architectural style of Jade Buddha Temple is inherited from Song Dynasty temples, with a rigorous overall layout covering an area of approximately 11.6 acres and a building area of 8856 square meters. The central axis is lined with the main buildings such as the Heavenly King Hall, the the Shakya ManiHall, the Jade Buddha Tower, and the Guanyin Hall, the Bronze Buddha Hall, and the Reclining Buddha Hall on the east and west sides, forming a complete Buddhist architecture group.
