Grand stairways and xerxes gateway:
It is first place that these days visitor will see after buying ticket and entered the Persepolis .Xerxes gateway consist of mythological creature ( a mixture of bull and head of human with crown )for arriving to the Xerxes gateway you need to pass from grand stairways at the north west of corner of the site .
Stairs were carved from huge blocks of stone but steps are very shallow to let Persian royal family and akeamaind king with long graceful robes could walked up the stairs with grandeur .delegation who wants visit akamanid king were supposed to wait after entering Xerxes gate , they faced with an waiting hall and after while they have permission to visit akaemanid king . on the top of Xerxes gateway cuneiform inscription in old Persian , neo-babylian and elimite language were written .
The meaning this writing is:
A great god is Ahuramazda, who created this earth, who created heaven, who created man, who created happiness for man, who made Xerxes king, one king of many kings, commander of many commanders.
I am Xerxes, the great king, the king of kings, the king of all countries and many men, the king in this great earth far and wide, the the son of Darius, an Achaemenid.
King Xerxes says: by the favor of Ahuramazda this Gate of All Nations I built. Much else that is beautiful was built in this Persepolis (Pârsâ), which I built and my father built. Whatever has been built and seems beautiful - all that we built by the favor of Ahuramazda.
