Guanyin Temple includes actually three buildings, Guanyi Temple, Empress Tianhou and Sanjie Temple. These temples were built here before the Qing Dynasty and ever since has been the shrine that local people pay their respect to all those gods there. But, as viewed from the location the temples are situated right on the cliff of the East River, these temples were seemingly built there to control the evil forces in the river to prevent floods. As the town lies at the bend of the river, each time the river was flooded, the whole town was threatened, therefore, the temples were built for a practical purpose.
