Liuhua Lake - Photos by JamesWang, China, Guangdong Province, Guangzhou
Liuhua Lake was named Lanhu Lake or Zhilan Lake in the past. In the Han and Jin Dynasties, the lake was connected to the Pearl River and was a major inland port of Guangzhou. In the Tang Dynasty, a West Lord Port Pavillian was built, which served as a busy water road hub. In the Ming Dynasty, the lake became smaller and was cut from the river, and ever since, it was not more than a small pond to the west of the city.
