About this place
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area stretches across New Jersey and Pennsylvania states. It has been protected since 1978. In this peaceful and well preserved area which lays on about 70 000 acres or 28 000 ha Delaware River flows through Appalachian Mountains.
Within the park there are several education centers concentrating on environment education and there is also a craft village. Inside of the park there are also some archaeological sites testifying the presence of the Native American settlements within the park area. There are also remains of the Dutch settlement which dates back to the beginning of the colonial period.
Besides guided tours either on foot or by car one can also enjoy other activities like climbing, cycling, canoeing, hiking, fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing as well as camping (camping only in allowed area).
