About this place

Building №6 on the Rynok (or Market) Square is part of Lviv History Museum, which exhibits the Royal Halls. The building is also known as Kornyakt House or Sobieski House.

Built in the middle of 16th century it has become the residence of the wealthy and most distinguished buglers in Lviv at that time - Constantine Kornyakt. In 1640, however, it went into possession of Jakub Sobieski, father of King Jan III of Poland. Since this time on, a beautiful six-window house served a residence of the Polish King.

This building has witnessed many important historical events. In 1686 a Peace Treaty was signed in this house between Poland and the Moscovy State, whereby Poland relinquished its hold on Kiev and that part of Ukraine that lay on the left bank of the Dnipro River and was committed to respect the rights and faith of Ukrainian population and put an end to their oppression.

On the second floor, there is the Royal Halls Museum, which will tell you the history of this building in details. You will be able to admire the beauty of an inner decor, original furniture and porcelain as well as see the pictures of people, who once owned this building. Among the exhibits you will also find a quaint 19-century symphonious music box and one of the most mysterious exhibits - the Dragon Chair, which was brought to Lviv from Germany after the WWII.

Kornyakt's House is a remarkable monument of Lviv civil architecture of the Renaissance period and it's a highly recommended place to visit in Lviv.
