About this place
Kiyomizudera Temple was founded in the late 8th century in the wooded hills east of Kyoto and today is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its present buildings are constructed in the first half of the 17th century. The name Kiyomazudera means ˝Pure Water Temple˝ and it got its name from the waterfall within the complex.
The main hall with its veranda has an amazing view on the city. Otowa waterfall in the three channels falls into a pond. Each stream of water has its own meaning. The complex has also the Okunion Hall and Koyasu Pagoda. The nature and view around the Temple are beautiful and visitors can enjoy them as well as buy souvenirs which offer is especially good during festival days.
