Boned in a remote village surrounded by endless mountains in Yunnan, I always had the dream to travel and see the world beyond. So I studied very hard in school and became the first university student in my little village. Majored in English subject, we were trained to read Shakespeare and Emily Sholate. I learned to speak, read and write English very well.
After graduation, I was selected as a volunteer and was sent to Thailand to teach Chinese by the China government. Two years living in Thailand was more a lesson to me. I realized how much difficulty people need to go through to be able to live and travel in another country. I am still very grateful that Thai people are so generous, kind and understanding. And I was very happy to find many English written books which are not available in China, like The Wild Swan, Three Cups of Tea, which allowed me to see China from a different ground, and to see different possibilities of living. The highlight there was getting to know the community around the beautiful Mut Mee Guesthouse, from where I started practicing Yoga and meditation, and met amazing people who work on organic farming and who walk on the path of Dhamma. I even took a vippassana retreat in Northern Thailand, later on became vegetarian, and a practitioner..
While living there, i did get chances to take the boat travelling through Meckong from China boarder to the Golden Triangle, where used to be the home of drugs, now a peaceful land with lots of memories. And i still remember having a motor and bicycle accident in the ancient Lao capital, Luang Prabang, where fortunately got one only Lao-China Friendship Hospital.
Back in 2007, I was able to travel several times to other places in China, like Guilin, Yangshuo, Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an and some other provinces. Then I came back and settled down in beautiful Lijiang. Lijiang is a gifted place, the blue sky, the crystal water, the lovely fruits and veges all year round, the sunny smile from people’s heart, and the peace that rests in every corner. Where else can i search for this?
While having been working in CITS, I was struggling between making a living and taking people to tourist shops. I wanted to find another way out, and finally said goodbye to the company. Here I am, doing what I love and good at, taking people to these hidden authentic places, sharing the beauty of nature and the humble mountain people. Everyday is a good day!
