Since hundreds of  years there was a Bodhi tree at the river bank of the river 'Kalu'. near the little town Kaluthara in A 2 road.there was not a bridge to cross the river 'Kalu' the most widest river of the country and travelers had to use a ferry..before cross the river they asked the blessings from the holly tree and Lord Buddha to protect them and kept a coin near the holly tree.and on their way back they praised the tree and Lord Buddha and kept another coin.

that was in the past,but now travelers has a huge bridge to cross the river 'Kalu'.but they still follow their ancient custom.worship the tree and put a coin to the till box near the holly tree.

also now they have a huge temple to worship.the temple was built in 1950 s.the great socialist sir, Cyril de Zoysa and followers built this magnificent temple.

River 'Kalu' still flowing silently looking at the Holly tree and the temple.she can not see the ferry or the ferry man.but thousands of cars and people cross the river over the bridge,and she know The Holly Tree still protect the people.
