Lan Kwai Fong
Lan Kwai Fong is located on the south end of Queen’s Road Central and above the winding D’Aguilar and Wyndham Streets. It is definitely the place to party, with many famous bars and clubs concentrated up, down, and either side of the elongated hilly stretch of tarmac. You will find a great mix of people and cultures, with locals and expatriates enjoying many liquidated happy hours in the area. The Lan Kwai Fong restaurant group owns many bars in the area, but they most certainly do not have a monopoly, so check our list of top bars and nightlife entertainment to see some of our favorite specially selected watering holes (rigorously scientifically tested and proven to be so).

Recently opened, Club No. 9 is the latest edition to the Hong Kong super-club scene. These swanky outlets are dubbed super-clubs because they house just about everything a nightlife fiend would want into one. Like Hong Kong precedcessors Tribeca, JJ’s, and Kee Club, Club No. 9 is an amalgamation of dancefloors, cocktail lounge, elongated bars and dashing chandeliers. With videos and lights impressively projected onto a slick dome-shaped ceiling, it is enough to make anyone want to dance. The grand balcony outside is one of the real draws as it offers amazing cocktail-accompanying views of the skyscraping metropolis that is Central, Hong Kong’s financial district.

Catering to the upscale partier, this is one of the bigger party venues in town. The 8,000 square foot club is divvied up into three spacious areas, with each room radiating its own vibe and music. The entrance martini oval lounge has a dark sexy feel about it with dangling golden chains and a musical focus on hip hop and r&b music. Step on through into the main room and you’ll gravitate towards the long bar, which seats up to 30 people. It’s the ideal place to perch on a barstool and chat to an attractive patron or two whilst enjoying a glass of champagne. The dance floor was definitely the highlight of the club, definitely something to go and experience for yourself. Slick white arches surrounding the circular dance floor house cozy niches, an ideal location to sit and talent spot. For the exhibitionist amongst us, Tribeca comes equipped with a glammed up stage befitting only the most striking of dancers. If this isn’t your scene, try the third late night lounge where the décor embodies sophistication. The dark wood fittings and leather sofas are reminiscent of salons where gentlemen sip their single malts.

The club’s playlist is eclectic but agreeable, with nods to what’s hot on the world’s trendiest dance floors. Drink options are plentiful and the martinis delectable. Nightlife in Hong Kong often lacks variety, but at Tribeca we were spoiled for choice.

FINDS is a slick restaurant and bar located on the top of Lan Kwai Fong. The name stands for Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden and they serve signature dishes from the whole region. They specialise in fine dining, funky entertainment, and fine enjoyable drinking with scapas (Scandinavia tapas snacks) to boot. The décor could be described as icy-cool with flowing whites, light blues and dim romantic lighting – easily one of the best designed outlets in Lan Kwai Fong. Signature dishes include silver cod with faroe shrimp cream and roasted wild duck with ginger sauce. Although they are experienced with their food, FINDS is equally popular as a bar offering up signature Scandinavian vodka concoctions, champagne cocktails and a erudite selection of wine – all of which can be enjoyed in the comfort of their dazzling outdoor patio.

Judging by the amount of A-List celebs regularly passing through the Grand Hyatt, one would only expect their main entertainment venture to be second-to-none. And second-to-none it is, with the majestically atmospheric Club JJ’s emerging in a sea of gothic emblems and imposing décor. Quite possibly the classiest lounge in Wan Chai, this place reeks of refined elegance which envelops you from the moment you enter and does not cease until you leave. Everything - from the jazzy third floor music room to the sleek martini bar and wine room - is designed for those with more money than sense, and that is undoubtedly a good thing. Be on the lookout for suave James Bond look-alikes and his Cuban cigar-smoking cronies, because they are the kind who fit in well here. The club features international DJ’s and there is also resident club band which plays to the house every night. In addition, there is even a modish Thai restaurant - JJ’s Thai and Grill - which offers Thai ingredients, freshly flown-in and served up alongside a selection of A-grade meat. Somehow this restaurant manages to fit perfectly into the JJ’s blend as well. With its exclusively inimitable interior decoration, remember to aim for the smart-casual at the very least.

This is where the celebrities come when they visit Hong Kong. Past patrons have included David Beckham, Jean-Claude Van Damme and the notorious Kenny G. This is the place to see and be seen with models, pop stars and paparazzi all mingling together to create a unique upmarket vibe. By day the terrace is a restaurant serving up an excellent dim sum buffet, but by night the spot transforms into a sexy nightclub with regular guest DJ’s flown in from all around the world to perform for the glamorous movers and shakers that populate this place. If you’re not on the guest list, be prepared to pay out a hefty cover charge. You’ll be glad you did when you get to shake hands with the one and only Kenny G.

Come funk it up and join the crowd in the Cavern. Having completed a futuristic renovation at the beginning of the year, this place is now the main spot for live music in Lan Kwai Fong. Although the same band plays just about every night, their cover songs are consistently good with the Filipino singers eloquently mimicking everything from the Beatles through to Elvis. The band starts unplugged (which means their electric guitars are basically just turned down – not acoustic) at 8pm - 7:30pm on Sun – and gradually build up reaching full steam at 11pm. On Fri-Sat there is a cover charge, which luckily includes a free drink.
