Wuzhen ,one of the most famous ancient watertown near Hangzhou , with a history more than 1000 years, its ancestors can be traced back to 7000 years in the new stone age. With the Beijing-Hangzhou grand canal run through , it is currently diveded into east and west section:
1. East section:basically one waterway, about 400 meters , the houses along the two sides of the streets are the origin of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) . The street on the entrance side has souvenir shops and restaurants and the street on the far side has various museums exhibiting beds, clothes, white-blue printed fabric, etc. There are different kinds of exhibitions showing the ancientway of life in this water town.
2. west section : Large and more spacious than east section, this section was opened to the tourist in 2009.with many traditional architecture: colonnades, small bridges, balconies, piers, wooden windows and doors, and gray stone walls and pavings. Xi Zha has few local residents and is buitl with more hotels ,inns , bars and resturants.
