Ella is a small town in the hill country that’s famous among backpackers for hiking. A popular hike in this part of the world is a climb to the summit of ella rock. There are two routes to the base of the Ella mountain – a shorter path that’s some 3.5 Km along the main road, on which you can even travel in a vehicle halfway, and a longer route of around 7 Km on which you walk along the railway track before entering the jungle.

We opted for the longer route. The best time to attempt it is early morning or evening as the area tends to be scorching during the day. We walked along the railway track for about 2.5 Km before taking a left turn into the village and jungle

Day 05 – Dambulla / Kandy

Buduruwagala Rock Temple

In the Centre is a 16 M (52ft) high standing Buddha in the “abhaya mudra” Flanked on Either Side by a group of three sculptures. The Central of the Three Figures to the Buddha’s right is thought to Represent Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisathva of compassion in Mahayana Buddhism. He can be identified by the Image of Meditating Buddha on the crown he wears. The figure still bears orange paint around the head and white stucco on the Body; all the other sculptures may originally have been decorated in a similar fashion. The female figures to the right thought to be the Mahayana hoddess,Tara

 

Among the Group of Figures to the left of the Buddha, the one in center is believed to be Maitreya, the Fifth and Future Buddha. Sculpture to his left depicts the Tibetan Bodhisattva Vajirapani symbol, while the figure to right is thought to be Vishnu.

It is in the hill the hill country area which is 1041 meters above see level. Very nice place for hiking and mountain climbing, one is rock climbing,second is little Adam's peak climbing, third is Ravana cave and Kital ella water fall. Very nice cool climate in the evening. On your tour you may visit couple of days.
