Pingjiang Road, a creek-lined narrow street stretching over 1.6 kilometers, is the most original old street in Suzhou. The existence of Pingjiang Road street dated back about one thousand years ago as the evidence of its appearance on the map of Suzhou drawn in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). Many ancient bridges and old houses by the street carry stories to be told. If you are interested in folk arts of Suzhou, such as Kungqu Opera (Oral & Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO) performances, Pingtan plays (storytelling and balad singing in Suzhou dialect) and sugar-painted lollipops, it is also the place to be, with theaters, museums and stalls scattered in the convergences off the Pingjiang Road street.
