About this place
Dufu Thatched Cottage
Dufu, a poet in Tang Dynasty during the year of 712-770. He wrote so many beautiful poems now written in Chinese textbooks, which are well known to Chinese people. His poetry reaches the pinnacle of classical Chinese poetry, so he is respected as the patron saint of poetry.
Once Dufu moved to Chengdu and stayed in the cottage for 4 years. Dufu Thatched Cottage is located in the west of Chengdu city, inside the 2nd ring road. It has become an architectural complex, typical of the civilian residences in western Sichuan, combining Dufu’s former residence with a memorial hall and traditional gargens. The main buildings include the Front Gate, the Lobby, the Hall of Poem History, the Wattle Door and the Gongbu Shrine. They are all built along a central axis with accessory structures symmetrically set on both sides. With winding stream, small bridge and leafy bamboos, the site is noted for its solemnity, tranquility and elegance.
It is a typical Sichuan garden. As the poem Dufu wrote: small bridge, stream and the cottage. Upon entering the Front Gate, you will see a shimmering brook flow by. It is the Huanhua Brook.
The most interesting is the cottage. It is made of bamboo ,grass and mud, it’s typical Sichuan cottage. Around the cottage is Nanmu trees and herb-medicine, and a spring in the courtyard.
