Windsor Castle is built by the William the Conqueror in the 11th century on a steep hill above the river Thames. Since its construction it was home to 39 monarchs. The legacy of the monarchs can be seen throughout the castle. Windsor Castle tells the story of a long royal history and it is an official residence of Her Majesty The Queen. This castle is the world´s largest and oldest inhabited castle.
Paintings of the famous artists, tapestries, porcelain, royal doll house, and armor can be seen while walking through the beautiful rooms of the castle. Various exhibitions are arranged frequently in the castle, and there are tours which lead visitor ensuring that the visitors see the castle in its splendor.
The castle is open or public all year round with exception of several days when Her Majesty occupies her residence for ceremonies, and official entertaining, which can even occur on a short notice. It is highly recommended to visit a website or telephone the Ticket office before the arrival.
