About this place
Bang Pa-In Royal Palace is situated on the Chao Phraya River in Ayutthaya. This is a palace complex previously used by Thai kings, which was originally built by King Prasat Thong in 1632. It is also known as the summer palace. After Ayutthaya was sacked in the 18th century the palace was abandoned. It was last restored in 2011, and on its grounds there are several more buildings. Today, besides being a tourist attraction, the palace is also used by Their Majesties as a temporary residence or for making receptions.
