Wuhan, NightlifeIn terms of nightlife, Hankou is the buesiest and most lively part of Wuhan. The local Mafia types like to hang out in most of the popular bars in Hankou and make their presence known. Don’t worry too much though, as they genereally keep to themselves and are never seen bothering other customers.
There are a few Western style bars spread across Wuhan. Plenty of choices for an evening out are available in Wuhan along Jianshe Dadao Avenue (汉口建设大道), Taibei Road (台北路), and Xiang Gang Road (香港路).
Many upscale hotels have decent bars as well. The Shangri La hotel has a rather pricey American Sports Bar which is always popular with the expats.
If you don’t feel like hanging out in the bars; take a walk along Jianghan Road (汉口汉江), the pedestrian precinct of Wuhan, or catch a performance at the Wuhan Acrobatics Hall or the Wuhan Theatre.

(1 vote) The University (Wuhan University and others) area offers some smaller and more relaxed places to have a drink. The streets around Ba Yi Lu (武昌八一路, 武汉大学正门口东) are especially good and the Festival Bar is currently popular among Wuhan's foreign students. A similar place is the Sunshine Bar near the Shangri La hotel.
There are many bars along Jianshe Dadao Avenue(汉口建设大道) in Hankou. Upper and middle class people generally hang out in these bars, which are artistically well decorated. Jazz, blues, Latin-American music, and exotic dance performances give these bars a different feel and more relaxed and diversified atmosphere.
Taibei Road is packed with 6 or 7 bars. Dancing groups and rock bands present live performances. Karaoke, KTV, Western buffets, discos, and many other indulgent activities are available here. Drinks are cheap, usually around 20 Yuan, and you will be able to socialize with all classes of Wuhanese around Taibei Road. The area is noisy and possibly a bit unsafe.
