Introduction
Nanjing is situated on the middle and lower reaches of the Yangzi river in eastern China. The city covers an area of over six thousand square kilometers with a population of over 6.2 million. As the capital of Jiangsu province, Nanjing is an important cultural and education center. The city boasts many of the province’s top universities and colleges. Wuhan (武汉), located at the confluence of the Changjiang (长江) and Hanjiang Rivers (汉江) is the capital of Hubei (湖北) province. It is most famous for its lakes. In fact, it is called “the town of one thousand lakes" because once one reaches the east side of Wuhan, they may feel as if the lakes are endless.

The first recorded mention of Xiamen dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). At the time tXiamen was known as “Jiahe Island,” or in English, "Isle of Abundant Crops". Lying just north of the Yangtze River, Yangzhou was a major trade center on the Grand Canal. Yangzhou is only an hour bus ride from Nanjing, and three hours from Shanghai. Emperors used to visit Yangzhou by boat to enjoy its distinct architecture and famously beautiful women, among other things. Yangzhou reached its heyday over a thousand years ago as a salt distribution center during the Tang Dynasty. Read more...
