Northeastern University ( 东北大学 dōng běi dà xué )

Located in the southern part of Shenyang near the Hun River, Northeastern University’s (NEU) large campus  is really quite impressive. The campus’ eastern side conveniently borders San Hao Jie Computer Market. The campus’ facilities include a gymnasium, sports stadium, swimming pool, auditorium, coffee shop, and several cafeterias and restaurants. 

 

NEU is quite famous around China, and is officially on the list of “Top 30 Universities in China” (according to the Chinese government). NEU specializes in technological research including Automation, Metallurgy, Computer Software, Computer Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering. 

 

For foreign students of Chinese, the curriculum is divided into 5 levels. School officials will assess a  student’s level upon arrival. Included in the curriculum is preparation for the “HSK” (汉语水平考试), a nationwide test of foreigners’ Chinese ability. Taking the HSK is not required by the university, but it may be necessary to fulfill some students’ scholarship requirements. 

 

How to get there: NEU is located on the south side of town, just south of the inner ring road (文化路 wén huà lù). The campus’ east side borders San Hao Jie Computer Market, and on it’s northwest side is Nanhu Park (南湖公园). If you take a taxi, ask for “dōng běi dà xué běi mén(东北大学北门).” 

You can also take the following buses to the north gate (the bus stop is called nán hú gōng yuán (南湖公园)): 502,244,117,280,225,272,239,135,环.  Or take 244 all the way to the campus’ south gate (南门nán mén).
