Qingdao Railway Station provides frequent connections to regions throughout China with direct routes to Beijing, Jinan, Weihai, and Yantai. There are 50 train routes in operation to and from Qingdao Railway Station. A high speed train connecting Jinan, Qingdao, Beijing, and Guangzhou has been recently completed, and can cut travel time in half compared to the standard trains.

Qingdao’s old rail station has been completely demolished, and construction recently began (June 2007) on its replacement. For the mean time, all Qingdao-bound travelers use the smaller SiFang (四方) train station in SiFang District in the northern part of Qingdao. Aside from a slight inconvenience, this shouldn’t affect your travels. However, do bear in mind that in Sifang the roads are bad and the traffic is heavy, so leave yourself at least one hour to get there from the city center by taxi, longer if you want to take the bus.

If you are arriving at Sifang station, you have three options for transportation. You can take the 215 bus into the center of the city; you can take a taxi for 30-40 yuan; or you can usually find people trying to convince you to stay in their hotel. If you decide to do so, they will give you a ride for free.

Where to buy railway tickets:
To buy train tickets or make reservations, it is wise to avoid the long row in the ticket office of the Qingdao Railway Station since you can buy railway tickets at many nearby ticketing agents.
