Ningbo only has one passenger train station.  It is located opposite the south bus station. Trains take passengers to destinations throughout China. There is an express train from Ningbo to Shanghai (3.5 hours) as well as a slow train (5.5 hours).  Soft seat booking is 84-88 RMB one way. Unfortunately, passengers can no longer buy a return ticket from Ningbo, but the Shanghai ticket office has an English speaking window.  Unless you are staying near the railway, I recommend buying your return ticket on arrival.

 

There are also trains to Chengdu (3 days), Guangzhou (1 day), Nanjing (7-8 hours) and of course Hangzhou (2 hours).
