The bakery serves sandwiches, pastries, and ice cream ready to eat. They also sell real freshly made bread and cheese. Inside, there are a few tables and a message board that is frequented by many foreigners in Nanjing, especially students. The "Skyways" sign is a bit hard to notice, so look carefully for a grey sign with small yellow writing. If you are looking for some other foreign ingredients to compliment what you purchase at the bakery, then cross the street and check out the small foreign goods store. There is also a second location of Skyways Bakery and Deli that is less well known: Taiping Men Dajie No. 10 (太平门大街10号) This location has plentiful seating both inside and outside. This Skyways is also a bit difficult to locate, because the store face is pushed back behind the front of the building. Again, look for the grey sign with small yellow writing. BEWARE: IT GETS HAIRY!!! HOLD THE PUBES PLEASE!!!
Apr 01, 2010 — chen9358I have worked and lived in Nanjing just under 2 years. Normally I do not bother expressing my opinions online, but today was the last straw. Hopefully, this message reaches the owners of Skyways and encourages them to better manage the quality of their products.
I order a Skyways sandwich 3-4 times per week for lunch. Our company picks them up from their bakery near Purple Mountain, and delivers them back to our office. Until today, the only bad experience I've had was finding a long hair smashed into the top piece of my Ciabatta roll. The hair was literally stuck into the crust of the bread. I've had worse experiences, so I shrugged it off. Plus, the options are limited when you work in JiangNing. Sure, I've heard stories from co-workers about cockroaches stuck in their Skyways bread, and hairs between the Saran Wrap and their sandwich, but I decided I'd give them another chance.
Fast forward to today (April 1, 2010). I ordered the "Special" which happened to be Chicken Breast. I finished the first half, and it was quite alright. The whole wheat bread, tomatoes, lettuce, mustard, and generous amounts of meat would meet the standards of most. Then I began to dig into the second half. Two bites in, I look down at my sandwich. I'm glad I looked before taking the third bite. In between the chicken breast and the tomatoes, was a 3 inch long, black hair. This wasn't any ordinary hair though. It was scraggly and thin, as if from the pubic region. Now I'm not suggesting it was sabotage, but either someone's making sandwiches while not wearing pants, or someone at Skyway's has a head full of pubic-like hair.
I've only had 2 bad experiences out of 100+ sandwiches, but when I filled out the Sandwich order form, I clearly remember that I did not check the "Pubic Hair" box. HOLD THE PUBES!!!
Best Bakery in Nanjing!

Great Bread but Terrible Service!
Sep 05, 2009 — GuestWhile the bread is nice, the service stinks. Seems that business is too good (they are making really high profits no doubt) and so basic courtesy and customer service have gone out the window. Their sandwiches provide measly amounts of ingredients and they charge 5RMB extra for a slice of ham etc... very poor quality compared to anything you would expect from an outlet owned and managed by a German and Swede - compare to any US sandwich bar... sandwiches are a joke. How much does some tomato cost? slice of ham? not 5RMB extra I have been going there for years spending about 4000 RMB a year there and when accidentally I ordered a 15RMB salad by ticking a box they insisted I take it.... their cost about 3RMB if that, a fraction of the money they make off me as a customer. What you would expect is "Don't worry about it, here is your money back" and they could have put in the fridge and used the ingredients later. But they were stubborn and basically said "Your own stupid fault, you ticked the wrong place, you have to pay for it!!" The ladies there have no idea about customers service - I have been really annoyed and disappointed with their service numerous times, but today was just a joke.... I was speechless.
The owners need to actually manage their staff.... or even better a competitor open up down the street, maybe that would develop a bit more value for money and customer service??
You must try the dessert there
Aug 25, 2009 — evannetiramisu is their famous, but i like the cheese cake best in Shanghai Road. Tough the place is not so big, but i like the environment. You can grab some sandwich or just set with some friends to kill the time. Oh, another amazing thing about this place, there is a beggar in front of skyway like...forever. He is nice and knows a lot of foreigner customers. Say "hi" if you get there like i do. what he need is not money but friends and cares i think.
Make your own sandwich here!
May 27, 2009 — SamanthaSkyways Bakery and Deli, i love this place, you can choose the bread the toppings, the sauces and you can have a drink just for 15 rmb, and the chief will make your sandwich really fast so when you feel starving come to Skyways Bakery and Deli.
And i like the tuna sandwich, for sure you can add another toppings on like bacon salami or chicken, just remember each extra topping will charge 5 rmb.
