Tea Houses in Kunming
|
Yunnan Province fame and notoriety is steadily increasing for a number of different reasons. One of the biggest reasons is Pu’er Tea. Historically, Kunming was one of the main hubs of the South Silk Road trade route. Just recently, Simao, a city a few hours south of Kunming, changed it’s name to Pu’er, obviously trying to capitalize on the tourism the name will generate. As the main producer of Pu’er Tea, Yunnan is probably the cheapest place in the world to buy it.
With that said, there is really nothing particularly special about the tea houses in Kunming. While a few of the tea houses bordering Green Lake Park are pleasant places to relax in the afternoon, these houses also tend to be the most expensive places to drink tea in Kunming. As anywhere in China, Kunming’s tea houses regularly host Chinese patrons who play cards and Mahjong, and of course drink tea, for hours on end.
