Self-explanatorily summarised in a sentence, artwalk is basically a mass-organised stroll around a large number of art galleries in Hong Kong. Now into its eighth year, the artwalk is Hong Kong’s biggest art charity event with the society for community organisation (SOCO) taking the bulk of the donation.
The premise is as follows; on Wednesday, March 12th 2007, between 5pm to 12midnight, 55 galleries (in Central, Soho, Sheung Wan, Wanchai and Aberdeen) will all open their doors and those who have purchased an artwalk badge can wander in and out as they please. This is no marathon, so there is no fixed route, and participants can choose however many galleries they want to visit and they can stay for as long or as short as they want to (attention spans depending). Throughout the artistic circumambulation, free wine and snacks will also be offered to resuscitate and revitalise the weary, restless, or those who have just had an overdose of creative inspiration. It all kind of feels like an adult Easter egg or treasure hunt, only there will be no eggs, no treasure and – come to think of it, aside from the homebound drunks – there won’t be much hunting going on either.
Ticket prices: Adult tickets HK$420 Students: HK$90
