    If you like seafood, go directly to this section of town.  A large market full of fresh fish and other seafood fresh off the boats opens up around 5 pm daily.  If you aren't much of a cook, then head for one of the several large, pavilion-type restaurants next to the market.  It can be difficult to tell one from the other.  As you approach, hostesses will beckon you inside.&

    Located in the Guo Mao district, this is the one of the first restaurants I came to when I moved to Haikou.  Two hostesses in long silk gowns open the door to a huge circular room with tiled floors and a stage in front upon arrival.  Typical Xinjiang décor of plastic leaves and grapes hang from the lattice roof.  Like most Chinese restaurants a TV dominates the front of

    The staff at the Nobe Boat Japanese restaurant are particularly nice.  It’s a restaurant my husband and I go to regularly. The manager always welcomes us warmly, asks about our job, the kids, and stops by to chat throughout the evening.
