Close to the city center and featuring 368 hectares of water and 104 hectares of land, Xuanwu Lake Park is a favourite getaway for locals.  Well before the sunrise and even after sunset, the park is bustling with visitors. Some come to walk, jog, or fly kites, others to practice Tai Chi, and many more just want to enjoy the scenery

Just north of the city center (Wenchang Pavillion) lies the tree and park lined Hu Cheng Canal 护城河 (also called the Qian Long Waterway). Yanfu Road runs along the waterway. Emperor Qianlong used this route to enter the city and visit Slender West Lake.

This is the residence where the great hero Mao Zedong had lived on his ninth trip to Shanghai from February 1924 till the year end. It is the only Mao's residence open to the public in Shanghai, covering an area of 520 square meters. On the first floor is the key exhibition on Mao's working and living in Shanghai at that time.

The local call it "the Bei's Garden". Built in 1934, the Bei's residence was then owned by Bei Zuyi, who was the descendant of Bei Runsheng, both from the glorious family in Suzhou. Bei Zuyi later became the president of Bank of China in 1945. He is also the father of the celebrated architect, I.M Pei.
