For high-end 5-star dining in Chengdu, head for Gingko right next to the American Consulate, and just south of the Shamrock Bar. Gingko has three floors of dining rooms and private rooms all of which are beautifully decorated. There are three kitchens, one specializing in Japanese cuisine, another in Chinese cuisine, and the last in Western fare. Dine alongside Communist party officials and foreign diplomats and ambassadors as you enjoy international delights such as Kobe steaks or sushi. Bring your wallet or credit card as you could easily spend a months’ salary here, especially if you go for the alcohol.
Directions: Gingko is at the heart of the more affluent south end of town located inside the Western Tower. It is at the corner of the 4th section of Renmin Nanlu (人民南路4 段) and the Consulate Road (Lingshiguan Lu, 领事馆路). Buses 16, 45, and 99 all stop in front of the restaurant.
